Optometric Counseling and Vision Tests
As a general service and actual main activity we offer comprehensive, optometric*) consultations. In addition to the dioptric eye measurement (determination of the spectacle lens value), as optometrists we carry out an overall assessment of the optical-visual function of the eye. These tests and measurements, together with the use of documenting instruments, form the key to the choice and prescription of a visual aid.
Seeing at work, in traffic, in leisure time, during sports or under special conditions requires individual solutions which have to be defined and pursued together with the customer. After a careful analysis of requirements, we advise you which types of spectacle lenses or contact lenses are recommended, based on the measured values and the defined visual ranges (distance, near, intermediate distances).
We carry out vision tests for driving or nautical licenses of all categories, as well as serial vision tests, various screening procedures, also at workplaces or at sports clubs and associations.
If we find any abnormalities in our measurements and examinations, interdisciplinary external institutions and experts are consulted for assessment.
*) The word optometry is derived from the Greek "optike" (science of the visible) and "metreĩn" (measuring).
Spectacle Lens Determination
As optometrists, we use objective and subjective measuring methods to determine existing visual defects such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia and record the visual performance achieved. An examination for heterophoria or strabism and stereoscopic vision is also carried out.
If required, we offer testing for disturbance of normal colour vision, reduction of sensitivity for RED (protanomaly), GREEN (deuterine anomaly) or, the rare BLUE deficency (tritanomaly).
Contact Lens Fitting
The fitting of contact lenses is based on knowledge, experience and the results obtained from the various technical measuring and documentation devices. In contrast to spectacles, contact lenses must, in addition to the purely optical requirements, also fulfill essential physiological requirements of the eye. Therefore, in addition to the dioptric power, the choice of material and shape of the contact lens in accordance with the anterior segment of the eye is of great importance.
After all the optometric data has been collected, a first choice lens type is determined on the basis of the customers requirements and the current technical possibilities. Ordering, dispensing, the instruction in handling and care as well as necessary follow-up checks are carried out in a dynamic process until the contact lens fitting is successfully completed.
In challenging situations, such as irregular corneal surfaces of various causes or in infants and toddlers, a variety of lens types and/or care systems may be evaluated. This in order to achieve an optimal biocompatibility of the system.
